We are coming up to the first anniversary of the events of 9-11. They say that time flies, but this is unbelivable! On another front, Globalscape apparently is working on fixing bugs in the current version of CuteSITE Builder. If you have encountered any problems with the software, please be sure to contact Globalscape directly. The email address you should use is: tsupport@globalscape.com. Thanks!

Photos, thumbnails, flash files, movies, music, animated gifs, scrolling banners ... lot's of things to make your web page attractive, or unattractive. Be sure to keep the amount of flashing texts and graphics down to a minimum. After all they should be attention getters. If everything flashes, then what's the point?

Many CSB users are confused with the concept of splitting their .tlx file into multiple files, and publishing them to subdirectories. I keep wondering if they think that the computer that hosts their web site is something mystical or magical. But, it's neither. Your web provider's computer is just like your home computer, albeit larger, and with more safeguards, and one that the whole world can visit. When you specify within CSB that you are going to publish to a subdirectory, you are merely telling CSB to create a new subdirectory on your web site and to publish (copy) your web files to the subdirectory. It's exactly the same thing if you create a new directory on your PC and then copy files from other directories into it. As always, I suggest to practice. Create a new CSB file with perhaps the standard 4 pages in it. Then select to publish, click to publish to a subdirectory, and enter a name for your subdirectory -- 'test' is a good name! Then publish. To see your subdirectory, type in your domain name followed by /test -- example: www.mysite.com/test . Let me know if it works for you!

Can't believe it's been almost two months since my last entry. We've gone through Christmas, New Years, Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday! With the help of Lianna (L.Stover), we've been able to get several new CSB users publishing to their web sites recently. I have been maintaining a list of those web providers on my web site, along with the information required to configure CSB in order to successfully publish. If anyone has a web provider that is not listed, please email me your Host Setup information (you do not have to include your password), and I will be happy to include it on my site!

It's the weekend before Christmas, and everything is relatively quiet! I went to see Lord of the Rings last night with the "fam" -- what a great movie. Be careful, if you go -- some of the battle scenes are very graphic and violent (a la Braveheart, so I'm told). But overall, what a spectacular 3 hour production.

As to CuteSITE Builder and Trellix, one of the issues most new users have is how to control the display of text narratives after publishing. The answer is very simple: place the text inside a table! You gain two things from this: (1) you can control the width of the text simply by changing the width of the table; (2) you can change the background colors of the table cells, thus providing additional looks to your web site. I use tables especially in the body section of a CSB/Trellix page.

Globalscape has announced that registered owners of the 2.7 Publish Anywhere version of Trellix Web (PA/TW) are entitled to a free upgrade to CuteSITE Builder (CSB). As some are finding out, though, proving that you have an official version of PA/TW may require some work. The good news is that several users report that Globalscape has helped addressed their issues, and are quite happy as they have indeed received their CSB registration#. On the other hand, those who purchased the Trellix Web book this past year because it contained a copy of the PA/TW appear to be out of luck, as the version provided with the book did not require or come with a registration#. C'est la vie!

CuteSITE Builder 3.0 is now official. This first release of what was previously known as Trellix Web 2.7 is essentially the same product. It has been rebranded with Globalscape's name, all the 3rd party web gems have been eliminated, and some new features added to the publishing process. They were able to do all this and still reduce the size of the downloadable file from 16MB to less than 7MB. A new feature that Globalscape has also added is an online, web-based, CuteSITE Builder help file.
