Standard table. 3 rows by 3 columns

Now let's see what we can do with merge cells.
In this case, I want to put a photo or image in cell 'c' , and I want text to be in the other cells

Here's how to do this:

1. first I merge cells a & b together
2. then I merge cells e & f together

Result:
a b
c
d
e f

I then do some additional touches:

1. change the background colors for the text area
(right click in each cell, click Properties -> Table -> Background -> Uncheck Transparent Cell;
then click on the color box and select the desired color)

2. remove the inside borders
(right click in box, then Properties -> Tables -> Inside Border -> last icon for no lines)

3. add my image

Result:
a b
d
e f

However, we need to get rid of the white spacing above and below cell 'd':

1. Right click on table, click on Properties -> Table
2. Change 'cell spacing' to zero (0)

Result:
a b
d
e f

Finally, lets add in our text, change font and colors, and
here is our final result:

Independence Day

Each year Americans celebrate Independence Day.  More commonly known as the "Fourth of July", it's a day filled with parades, picnics, fireworks, speeches, and family.

The first American flag was made by Betsy Ross.  Today the 50 stars represent the 50 states.  The red & white stripes, which total 13, represent the original 13 states.
